This is the 2nd Criminal Evidence book that I've utilized by Gardner and I must admit, this, as with the previous edition, are great books. It provides lots of clear details theteby allowing me to gain a quick understanding of the normally difficult concepts. I would recommend this book to any scholl/professor looking for a great book on Evidence and would recommend keeping this book (as opposed to selling it back to your school or Amazon) as it will probably serve as a great tool as you continue to progress in your legal education.

As a student in the Carlow University Master of Fraud and Forensics program this book opened my eyes on the importance of understanding the criminal process. This book also assisted me in realizing the importance of the practices discussed can and will impact any future investigations I conduct.Gardner and Anderson did a great job on presenting the foundational concepts of how evidence is used in a criminal trial. They also illustrate the best and legal ways to go about collecting, preserving, and submitting evidence in a criminal matter. The use of real life examples and cases helped bring the concepts to an easy understandable manner. Not to mention this book did not hold back on discussing every possible type of evidence, such as, wiretapping, hearsay, child witnesses, lineups, and fingerprints, to name a few. Additionally, the layout of the chapters were easy to follow through the criminal and investigation process. I now have a much clearer understanding of the acceptable practices of investigating, gathering, handling, and presenting evidence for the best outcome in a trial.However, the only drawback to this book, is that some of the information can become boring.

I read the text as a required reading for a legal course in the Fraud and Forensic Science master's program at Carlow University. Prior to reading the text, the extent of my legal knowledge came from a few general business law courses taken in undergraduate school many moons ago. I found this particular text very easy to follow. The authors manage to pack in a great deal of significant information, rules, codes and laws pertinent to criminal evidence without being overbearing. The cases added throughout the chapters help put the laws into a realistic perspective; giving several examples of how the rule/law came to be and how it is used in current legal situations. Overall, the text was presented in a manageable format that would benefit a novelist or someone experienced in the legal field.

Gardner and Anderson's book, Criminal Evidence Principles and Cases, was a required text in my graduate program. I am pursuing a Master's of Science degree in the field of Fraud and Forensics from Carlow University. Being a non criminology major or law enforcement professional, I was not up-to-date on the laws regarding Rules of Evidence, what constitutes a lawful search, court room proceedings, etc. Gardner and Anderson does an excellent job in braking down the legal jargon to give the student a simple but strong understanding. After reading this book I can say with confidence I have a greater understanding of the Fourth, Fifth, and Sixth Amendments of the U.S. Constitution. As well as knowledge pertaining to court room proceedings such as, but not limited to, hearsay evidence, rules of evidence, lawful search an seizures, and the rule of expert witnesses. Gardner and Anderson's research in to cases to support the information in this book is very extensive. It is clear they put a lot of time and effort into this book and I believe I am a better student because of their work. I highly recommend this book to all readers.-Ron

I used this text as a part of Carlow University's Master of Fraud and Forensics program for a Legal Elements course. Prior to starting this course, I was not familiar with many laws, protocols, and procedures that are essential to know regardless of the legal situation is at hand. This text book carefully walks the reader through different aspects of law and the history that caused it to be what it is today. In addition to providing a detailed explanation for current day law, many state and federal cases are utilized to demonstrate the concept being described. For example, when reading the chapter about hearsay, many similar examples were utilized to show how very minor changes in a situation may make all the difference in the courtroom. I highly recommend this textbook for anyone interested in gaining a deeper understanding of law. The use of detailed cases and in depth examples really helps to fully understand the concept at hand.

While taking a Legal Elements of Fraud course in the Carlow University Masters of Science in Fraud and Forensics program, I used this text book. The book did an excellent job of showing applicable case law to the topics that were covered. Reading the cases was very interesting as to how the US Supreme Court ruled on particular matters and how that became the precedent going forward for that particular issue.Not being in a law enforcement field, many of the topics covered were new to me, and I found the textbook overall to be very interesting. It's fascinating how far the laws of this country have come since the country's inception and how they are applied today. I recommend this text book for anyone wishing to gain an understanding of the legal system.

El libro aborda el tema de la logoterapia, y en las mismas palabras del Dr Frankl, la Logoterapia es el lente que se usa para ver la vida. Me parece una teoria muy interesante, y el conjunto de tecnicas descritas para ayudar a pacientes es muy excelente. Definitivamente leer este libro tiene un potencial muy grande de influenciar al lector. El libro contiene varios ejemplos de como el Dr Frankl aplico sus tecnicas/mecanismos de terapia de manera muy efectiva y con excelentes resultados en sus pacientes. Obviamente, ese conocimiento se puede extrapolar a situaciones personales en las cuales el lector se encuentra en el momento de leer el libro, y por lo tanto pudiera el lector derivar nuevos mecanismos personales de interpretacion. En otras palabras, si lees el libro y tomas lo bueno que ofrece, sera de muy buen provecho para ti.

Es una historia muy interesante porque a pesar de que he leído muchos libros sobre Hitler y el holocausto, está historia es contada por un sobreviviente que además ya era psiquiatra. Las historias son desgarradoras pero es una realidad que no puede ser ignorada.

This edition, in Spanish, has a lot of grammar mistakes and just plain typos. It's not the quality I expect from Amazon.The text itself, well, is great. Do not get this edition.Ésta edición, en español, tiene errores de gramática por todos lados, incluso palabras mal escritas y dedazos. No es la calidad que uno podría esperar de Amazon. El texto en sí, es excelente. El autor hace una construcción psicológica de su experiencia en campos de concentración.No compres ésta edición. Si no tienes la posibilidad de leerlo en inglés, búscalo impreso en alguna librería. Faltas de ortografía es algo que no podemos dejar pasar.

Este libro ha respondido muchas inquietudes a nivel psicológico acerca de las reacciones del ser humano frente al sufrimiento propio y al ajeno. De por sí el relato acerca del holocausto es conmovedor pero también se vuelve material de estudio porque siempre ve el panorama desde la perspectiva del psique humano. Lo recomiendo ampliamente.

En este libro, el autor describe una situacion limite que le toco atravesar durante unos tres años de prision en un campo de concentracion nazi, y de como se pudo sobreponer a la misma gracias a un objetivo que lo trascendia, que en su caso fue el querer publicar un libro y en otros casos de gente que sobrevivio fue el de querer encontrarse con familiares luego del encierro. Tambien sirve para poner en perspectiva las cosas malas que a uno pueden sucederle, que pueden ser nimiedades frente a lo descripto en este libro.

A través de su relato se explica claramente cómo llegó a determinar los postulados de la Logoterapia.Interesante libro que no solo es histórico sino también clave para entender esa corriente de pensamiento médico

Pongo cinco estrellas porque fue un libro que me conmovió por los relatos de la experiencia del Holocausto, y que me sorprendió con una segunda parte dedicada a la logoterapia. Las etapas del prisionero en los campos mezcladas con la historia en si misma y el concepto del sentido es lo que más me llevo, asi como también unas primeras nociones sobre la logoterapia

Un buen libro que se enfoca en la concepción sicologica del hombre ante situaciones adversas o ante la presión por parte de las circunstancias.

This book is full of proverbs.Each proverb gives the way it is pronounced in Jamaica, how it translates into English, discusses what the proverb means, and it gives suggestions for carrying out the proverb in one's life.The proverbs are similar to some common sayings I've heard and proverbs I've never heard before.If you like reading about other cultures, proverbs and wise sayings, then you will like this book.It would make a good discussion book for a group studying the book of Proverbs from the Bible using it for a comparison/contrast type of study.

Very intersting seeing the Jamaican language and lesson perspective, along with the English translation.

This is a uniquely charming book that shares some truly valuable wisdom. These Jamaican proverbs are so insightful and beautifully presented, including an action step. They are beyond practical and while I am not Jamaican, I can easily imagine the wise grandparents sharing these pearls of wisdom with the younger generation as my Greek grandmother did the same thing when I was a little girl. You will thoroughly enjoy this read and get much value from it.

Such wise words from such a rich culture! I left a voicemail on my parent's phone with some of these expressions. They laughed so hard at me and my pronounciations. I love it when my parents say these expressions out of the blue. This book is great for those who want to preserve their family history and culture.

As this was my first exposure to Jamaican proverbs, I enjoyed reading this book. Reading the phonetic pronunciation was a fun exercise; it made it easier for me to imagine being on the island, and having a Jamaican grandfather or grandmother sharing their wisdom with me.The proverbs are short, and cover a broad range of topics from avoiding conflict, to saving money, to measuring others by their character rather than their outward appearance. The action steps made it easy to see how to apply the lesson of each proverb in my life. I highly recommend Wisdom From Ole Time Jamaican People to people interested in learning age-old lessons in a way that is both delightfully unique and uniquely delightful.

Really enjoyed this book, love the wisdom came from the writers grandma, the best wisdom always does...Jamaican wisdom is for all.

Read this for my book club that is focusing on "cultural differences" this year. From that standpoint, this was a good selection as I learned a lot about the turmoil in India from the 1940's to 1970's when the main characters were coming of age. As other reviewers note, one brother escapes the turmoil by moving to the USA for his PhD, setting off his own conflict between his Indian culture and that of the US. The younger brother stays in India and becomes a revolutionary activist. But it's also a story about family conflicts and devotion.Of note, the author/editor chose to publish the book without quotation marks to indicate when a character was speaking. Some readers found this distracting, but it wasn't for me.I did enjoy the book and the author's style of story telling

THE LOWLAND REVIEWJhumpa Lahiri has moved to the front of my favorite author list after reading “The Lowland.” I’m fickle with my favorite authors so how long she remains there is dependent on what I read next. The fact remains that she’s a remarkable writer and has captured me with this magnificent novel.A researcher, cautious and reliable Subhash, relocates from India to America, and his younger sibling, rash and idealistic Udayan, is assassinated as a political activist in Calcutta. Subhash marries the widow, Gauri, who is carrying his brother’s child, to remove her from the brothers’ disapproving parents who are creating an oppressive environment for her. The ensuing years are chronicled as Subhash attempts to quiet the reverberations that affect all members of his family, although his efforts are mostly ineffective. His relationship with his niece, and stepdaughter, Bela, is a captivating episode of love and acceptance, but family members generally go their separate ways, each carrying their own bag of ashes.This story of two brothers with very different approaches to life is largely joyless but it does not leave an aftertaste of depression. The lives of the characters steadily progress with hints that something pleasant might happen, a hypnotic writing style that keeps reader involved. Disappointment, unfulfilled dreams, secrecy, and many deaths inhabit this lengthy novel but the ending, in just a few pages, brings the story to a tranquil closure.Lahiri touches senses and allows descriptive passages to be felt rather than read. She describes rain as both a feeling and a sound. “The roof of the cottage was as thin as a membrane, the pelting sound of the rain like an avalanche of gravel.” Recollections of seaside cottages are nostalgically gathered. “He pulled… into the driveway, bleached shells crackling under the tires as he slowed to a stop.” And sleepless nights are relived. “He longed for sleep, but it would not immerse him; that night the waters he sought for his repose were deep enough to wade in, but not to swim.”Several generations pass and the reader is carried along by the author’s mesmerizing story. It is written crisply in brief and succinct language. There are no lengthy, soaring flights of inner thoughts with obscure meanings. Relationships are clear and believable. The dialogue is easy to follow although the author doesn’t use quotation marks, but I don’t miss them. As mentioned, the author’s talent for drawing the reader into the story and allowing action to be felt, rather than simply directing eyes over words on a page, creates a glorious experience.As I end the book I have a curious thought. If Lahiri can write a book of sadness with such skill and poignancy, how might she present one of light heartedness and wondrous experiences? Such a beautiful book. The writing is lovely, the characters are real and complex and dealing with complicated and often sorrowful situations. Even so, we are left with hope for the future. Ms. Lahiri's preference for avoiding quotation marks around the dialogue threw me for a bit at first, but I was able to go with it pretty quickly until I didn't really notice it. I enjoyed the opportunity to learn about Indian history, and politics, and what America looks like through an immigrant's eyes. For me it also underscored that at our core, humans crave many of the same things—to be free, to be respected, to be heard, to be important to someone else. Highly recommended.

It’s hard to know where Jhumpa Lahiri is going with her novel, THE LOWLAND. It’s about two brothers who were born fifteen months apart, but were often mistaken for each other. Both are good students, but one is conservative and the other is a revolutionary.Subhash, the older one, and Udayan, were born in North Calcutta. Lahiri shows them fashioning a putter into an all-purpose club and sneaking into the exclusive golf course near where they live. Her point seems to be that India hasn’t changed much since independence. You still have the haves and the have nots. Strangely she never uses the word “Untouchable.” Not that the boys are poor; their parents are sort of upper middle class, just not rich enough to belong to the club.Matters come to a head when the Naxalite (communist) movement entices Udayan, and he is introduced to Gauri, a friend’s sister, whom he marries in defiance of his parents. In the India of the time, the late sixties and early seventies, parents chose their children’s spouses. Subhash would never have done that, but he does decide to attend a college in Rhode Island to study some sort of oceanography, where he picks up some American habits.Ultimately Udayan pays with his life and Subhash goes home to console his parents. They act like he's not there. He disapproves of the way they treat Gauri, rather like a servant girl, and he decides to marry her and take her back to America with him. This is really where the story starts. Gauri is pregnant with Udayan’s child. She’s also been studying philosophy and Subhash does everything in his power to help her achieve her goals in that respect, despite the child. Remarkably the baby seems drawn more to her “father” than her birth mother.I had a bit of a problem with Gauri’s behavior. She’s inappreciative; she can’t form a normal mother/daughter bond with her own child. I know we can’t help how we feel, but one would think being saved from life as a servant girl would have more of a psychological impact, whether sexual or only platonic. But apparently, as an author, Lahiri needs this to happen. Despite this, her objective, journalistic approach doesn’t provide much of a tone. And what is she saying about Udayan? Is he responsible for the unhappiness most of the characters go through because he wanted to help poor people? There’s no denying matters would have been quite different if Udayan had lived. Or is she saying that it doesn’t matter where the traumatic incident happened, that we’re all influenced by our families, and that they set the course of our lives?

It took a while for me to get into this book. The writing is good, the editing is fine. The story was just a little hard to get into and it left with cliffhanger. Not one of my favorite things.

I am still looking for that perfect, 5 star rating Sci-Fi romance with a human and alien, unfortunately, this was not it -- Not the best Sci-Fi romance I have read, but not the worst either. It does end quite abruptly and left me wondering what the outcome was to a problem (can't elaborate as it will be a spoiler). I assume there will be answers in the next book but as for the main characters, Resa and Xalax, this is their story and can be read as a standalone. The author does offer a "bonus chapter" on the coronation of the prince at the end of the book but I am undecided as yet. I also would have preferred the aliens to look and act a bit more alien other than their skin colour but that is a personal preference.Resa is a human female from earth who was "marked" at a young age as being compatible to become a future mate of one of the Zalaryn (alien) males. When the time comes to auction, it is the Prince, Xalax, whose attention she grabs most. Xalax decides to buy her even though they are supposedly not compatible. There are issues of trust and betrayal that come into play but ultimately it ends in a hea.There is a good amount of steam but not too much and as far as fast reads go, well thought out plot. Written from a dual pov, with no cheating and as previously mentioned, can be read as a standalone.

I will say this book was mildly entertaining, I may even read the sequel, I'd probably actually rate it 2.5 stars if I could. Others are complaining about the background story, I actually liked the background story and it is what makes the book interesting. The love scenes were super short, but at least enough for me to want to read more. Not a fan of the book title or the book cover, it feels blah, but it was the story description that had me shrug and "say sure why not". I don't know if I'd say I'd recommend this book to others, but, if your looking for a quick read to do in a day I say, sure, why not.

What a great start to the series and introduction to the writer's work. The writing is well done. Enjoyable solid storyline and well developed characters. The author takes time to develop and share the characters personalities so that I, as the reader could connect with them and feel like was in the story.I read the story in a day so it's a quick read. This story feels like a proper romance story with a slow steady burn as the story goes along. It doesn't feel rushed or contrived. The world building is acceptable and the romantic scenes are politely satisfactory. Happily going onto the next installment. Look for a complete review on Who She Reads once I finish the series.

If your looking for a good alien read. This may be it. The author gives you some different aliens to consider. But of course, all the different aliens can mate with human females. Earth is not the same. Women can only hope to mate with someone that can take them away from their planet. The hope that some male will not share them with others of there race.

Naughty, sweet and awesome, I loved it but I wish that it was longer, much more longer. Can’t wait to get my hands on the other 2 books! ^_^

Since they first started coming out with these Art Books, I've been in love with them and this one is no different. There aren't a lot of supplemental products out there for Magic the Gathering fans, so these have been sorely needed. Enjoying the always amazing art in nice big splash pages allows you to see so much little detail you just can't get by squinting at the cards. Fans of the great artists of magic the gathering as well as those who love the lore, flavor and storyline should definitely check these out.

This is my fifth book of The Art of Magic the Gathering series. Yes, I have them all and can't wait for the next one, Dominaria, in July this year. I don't even play the TCG, but I am always a big fan of this type of art concepts books.The quality of the paper, the painting, color, story/info of different groups/gangs, everything is great about this book.

All of the books from this series are astonishing. The imagery is surreal and the writing, simply brilliant. This book provides everything about the plane. It gives an amazing storyline that follows the card sets and a short history of the cards in the set, but the real power of the book is the images and the story, which makes up 95% of the book.You do not need to know anything about mtg to enjoy these wonderful books.Highly recommended for anyone that likes fantasy.

I only recently got back into Magic, and the Ixalan has been my favorite so far. I love the concept and art style so I just had to purchase this book, and I was just blown away by the sheer content this book holds. It goes through all the lore and characters for Ixalan and of course has beautiful illustrations. A must have for fans!!

The art in this volume is good, but not as good as the other volumes as the book is "lacking" Depth and Contrast.

As with most of the Art of Magic: The Gathering Artbooks, the artwork is stunning! They never seem to disappoint so far. I’ve collected at least three of them so far..

If you liked the art for the set, then this is a great addition to your collection.
