Ken Martens is an avid historian and both a researcher and Civil War re, enactor. He currently serves as a board member and vice-president of the Afton Historical Society and Museum. I bought this book because Lydia Carli and Dr. Christopher Carli are my 4th great grandparents. They were pioneers in Stillwater, Minnesota. I enjoyed reading this book and learning more about what life was like for my ancestors in early Minnesota history. The book is very well written with interesting stories about the people who lived in the St. Croix river valley.Anyone who enjoys learning about American history will love this book as it takes a look back into the past.

Fantastic book. I grew up south of Hudson and have been looking for a book like this about the history of the St Croix for years.
