Her children's edition, Bermuda: Five Centuries for Young People, was published in 2009.As a native islander, Jones is well-attuned to Bermuda's idiosyncrasies, history, social nuances, and insider secrets. Her research for the second edition of Moon Bermuda gave her the perfect excuse to brush up on esoterica, like the meaning of moongates,” what a cricket googly” is, and how to find authentic Bermuda shorts. I like this book. I bought it along with Fodor's, and find the two supplement each other very well. Considerable overlap, of course, but I particularly enjoyed the historical perspective which was superior in this Moon guide. I thought it provided more of an insider's view of the island, and enjoyed it for that reason. If I had to choose between the two guides I have, I would have picked this one.
Really informative. Organized very nicely. Great tool to use before my cruise:
good
Helpful and concise. Great map! Easy to read. Organized by parish. I can't comment on accuracy yet, but this book has been helpful in planning my trip. I would like more inside tips. The info is pretty bland.
very helpful travel book.. unfortunately it arrived after the trip so I was able to see what it recommended andhow that compared to reality. I would not use the same seller as it was sent media bulk with no prior notification.Quite a disappointment. Its always better to have a travel guide beforehand. The book was ordered in plenty of timeto get delivered by just going to the post office and mailing!
This guide book contains great information that seems honest. The information is organized by parish. General information about Bermuda's history and culture (towards the back of the book) was helpful and interesting.
We are going in Bermuda on next spring and I found all the things we will do in our vacation. A lot of photos, and descritpion of many places to visit was appreciated. It's a perfect book to plan our week of vacation.
Situated a mere 90 minutes out of New York, halfway between Canada and the British West Indies, Bermuda remains one of the most interesting and beautiful of all the island destinations in the Americas, especially when there is a full “Moon†over the pink sands of its pristine beaches. According to Mark Twain, “Bermuda is Heaven but you have to go through Hell to get hereâ€, such were the often rough voyages by ship prior to the 1950s.Thanks to the US Forces, who built the airfield at the eastern end of Bermuda in the Second World War, Bermuda was poised in the 1950s for a dramatic take-off into the world of “airplane tourismâ€. From settlement in 1612, in connection with Jamestown, Virginia (the beginning of the United States), Bermuda’s history is intertwined with that of the US and the new Moon Guide to the Island demonstrates that very well in its organization, which is partly based on the historical development of the place. The Island was one of the first modern corporations, where “shares†were allocated to investors and here the Parishes, or counties, are named for some of the big wheels, such as the Earl of Warwick, Lord Paget and Lucy Russell, Countess of Bedford. The splendid and extremely clear set of maps for the parishes, as well as other illustrations, are one of the outstanding features of the 2018 Moon Guide to Bermuda. There is almost no subject left unmentioned in this guidebook which was written by Rosemary Jones, and her involvement, as a Bermudian, adds much with regard to the local culture and historical sites and natural settings. As it is much better than some local offerings, as I live in Bermuda, I keep a copy in my car, for although the island is small at twenty square miles, it is a complicated place, with an intense history for such a tiny country. The Moon guide often shines on light on some aspect of Bermuda life, just when you thought you knew it all, so highly recommended for visitors and locals alike.
