With this meal plan and great, super-nutritious recipes, you will not be hungry. The only problem with this diet is the expense. Carbs, it turns out, are fairly cheap (pasta, potatoes, bread), while vegetables, meat and cheese can be expensive. Every time you turn around, you will be off to the vegetable stand, but it is well worth it. On this diet, you will be well fed and your family, friends, doctor and insurance company will be impressed.

This diet is full of common sense and I have lost weight by following the guidelines. It is easy to follow with lots of veggies, sensible proteins and cutting out processed foods, white flour and sugar.There are some errors in the book though. In the first two week phase, you are supposed to avoid carrots (higher sugar content) yet in the first phase recipe section, the recipe includes carrots.A minor detail to be sure, but still, this is not the only example I've noticed and I am wondering who proofed/approved this and what other errors there may be. (Hey, if you are following something to the letter and the letters are wrong....not good)This is easier to follow than Atkins and allows "good" carbs and fats.This is not so much a "diet" as a way to eat well , enjoy your food and make good choices for life.I am learning to "eat to live" instead of "living to eat" and this is a help.

I did this diet in high school and the beginning of college where I lost over 60 pounds. I never gained it back! I've been stagnant for the past few years and want to lose a few extra pounds, so I'm going back!

After I purchased the South Beach Diet book I lost 25 pounds in 45 days. It surprised me too. My doc asked me if I was starving myself. I told him and another doc that i was just following the book's advice. Mostly eggs and meat to start. Got to get that protein. I also drank Ensure high protein drinks. The book came after two doctors recommended it. I'm way thru the first phase and now I can eat other foods and still eat out. I mostly have given up the bread and baked potatoes.This diet is working for me . Unbelievable.

I will be starting phase 1 assoon as I eat most of the few things I chose not to throw out such as fruit ect that will spoil. I have lost the weight around my waste asstated in the book. I am ready to loose weight and get healthy. I think this is a lifestyle of eating rather than a diet or a change of dietreally. The hardcover arrived today. I can see phase 1 as being a little restrictive but it only lastsTwo Weeks.

This is a very good diet if you have a lot of motivation. I have been fortunate that several people in my family and friend are also on this diet. My husband has already lost 25lbs in a month and I have lost 11lbs.The food is easy to eat maybe a little expensive and hard to find at times but good. I still have more to lose so I plan to stay on the diet for a while. Then there is a final phase to teach you how to eat the rest of your life.

I hated the class I needed this for, but the book was great. Matlab is intuitive and quite fun once you get the hang of it. This book helps a lot.*Also you can find the answers to the problems online in case you need to check your work.*

I needed to learn how to use Matlab to run a complex analysis on a data set with several hundred thousand lines of data. Quite frankly, I never thought I'd be able to do it. I ordered a used copy of this book by Amos Gilat and a used copy of Stormy Attaway's Matlab. I read the first two chapters in each book and was ready to start creating and manipulating matrices in Matlab. Looking in the index, I found the discussion on for-end loops and I wrote my first script with loops. Step by step I am working my way to analyzing my data. Here are my general thoughts. First, Matlab is easier to learn than I expected. For me, it is more like working within a structured program like Stata, SAS, or SPSS than working with a blank-page programming language like R or Python. Second, Matlab is extremely powerful and versatile. It does everything from repetitive calculations to wonderful graphics and visualizations. I am very impressed. Third, both books are great at giving the reader the tools needed to start working with Matlab immediately. You don't need experience programming, but you will want access to Matlab to start practicing commands. Fourth, Matlab does so many things that neither book comes close to giving examples of working on the data the way I plan on analyzing it. For the specifics I have done a lot of Internet searching to find scripts already written to do the kinds of data manipulation and analysis I need to do. These books provide the basic information about working with the program -- creating and manipulating data as matrices, working with functions, and writing commands and scripts. Finally, I find this book by Amos Gilat to be clear, concise, and to the point -- perfect for my needs. So far my experience with Matlab has been so much more positive than I expected, due largely to these two books.

I am sorry to say that the 3rd edition is a great disappointment compared to the 2nd. It is unnecessarily prolix, with a great many typos. The copy editing is so bad that in one place several lines of text are repeated identically. It is difficult not to conclude that the 3rd edition was rushed into print mainly to obsolete the second edition and enrich the publisher. It would be a mistake, I think, to reward the publisher for such ill behavior. Although this edition contains some material not in the second edition, the extra content will not make much difference to a beginning student, and my advice to him or her is to purchase the 2nd edition, used. Neither edition treats structures or cell arrays, so I don't think a reader sacrifices much in the way of content by staying with the 2nd edition.Here's my three-year old review of the second edition - I still like it.This book was written for teaching Matlab to freshmen in an introductory engineering course, so most of the examples are from first year physics and engineering. Nevertheless, after looking at all competing texts, I chose it to teach Matlab to sophomore geology majors, most of whom had not yet taken calculus or physics. I was very happy with the results; by the end of the semester the students were well on their way to being competent programmers, and I think they will find calculus and physics much easier because of their experience with this book.I chose this text because it is very well written--you can tell the author has had long experience teaching the subject--and because of its many excellent examples. Sections are fairly short and easy to follow, and at the end of each chapter there are many problems of gradually increasing difficulty. The solutions to some problems are given at the back of the book. The abundance of complete examples makes it easy to skip around in the book as soon as students are familiar with Matlab syntax. There are astonishingly few typos and none were serious. Cell arrays and structures are used only where needed for particular commands, a wise pedagogical decision. I particularly enjoyed the second edition's new chapter on symbolic math, as I had never used this part of Matlab in my own research.The book is 7.5"x9.25" in size with 343 pages, and so is easy to carry around. It's inexpensive, as textbooks go nowadays.

Very helpful in learning Vectorworks. However, at least in the Kindle Edition, the images are too low resolution to read clearly (way too low), which is problematic because the text relies on them heavily at times to illustrate important Vectorworks settings. The author also often skips steps in the step-by-step instruction leaving the student to spend large amounts of time trying to puzzle out why something isn't working exactly as described in the text. I suspect that, in the author's tremendous familiarity with the program, he forgets to describe the little tricks and techniques he seamlessly uses to accomplish some of the tasks he asks the student to perform. This can cause quite a bit of frustration for the student, but, of course, once it's figured out, the student is far less likely to forget. It makes the learning process a little painful and unnecessarily arduous at times.Beware: There have also been software interface changes since this book was published using Vectorworks 2014 and Vectorworks 2015. Not a big deal, but sometimes things described in the text simply aren't there, or where they're described to be.

This is a great book in that it takes this complex program and focuses on what we use it for in our industry. It dives into little tips and tricks you may have missed if you are an experienced user. The downside is there are a few places where the instructions become convoluted and hard to follow. The only way that I was able to make it through was to draw on what I already knew having taught myself the program over the past 7 years. There are places where the directions are wrong or the wording is wrong. I recommend cover to cover reading...do not skip or skim because you may miss a trick or two.The authors knowledge of theatre design and Vectorworks is unquestionable and there are a few tips on design as well.Hopefully there will be a 2nd edition that will clear up some of the confusion and this book will become an extremely valuable resource to both new comers and veterans.

I'm new to Vectorworks, but am using the academic (watermarked) version 2015. Much of the text references features found in earlier versions. The work files provided online somehow cannot be used by the latest version of the app, which lowers this text's value add for newbies.The net: well-written but dated.

I found it difficult to follow. I didn't like the way it was organized.To me it was haphazard.To me a book like this is to explain things not in the manual, or perhaps to take you step by step,To be fair, I was mostly interested in the lighting part, so I was looking for a way to say, this is how you use it for lighting - and one could go to that chapter.

Really handy step-by-step book to being using Vectorworks CAD. Reading it feels like the author is sitting there with you explaining it. Super useful illustrations/screenshots depicting everything covered.
