I found this book at our local library a few months back and decided to check it out for my teenage daughter. She is only a freshman, but I thought she might find it interesting. Turns out, I'm the one who became interested. I loved the book so much that I bought my own from Amazon. I wanted to have it as a resource and I plan to share it with our high school guidance counsellor and high school librarian.The author, Genevieve Morgan, states, "Cut through the chaos and find the path that's right for you!" Very few people I know have a clear, direct path for their future, let alone teenagers just starting out into the world. The book starts off by offering a little self analysis for the reader. There is a quiz and checklist as well as questions to help you really think about who you are, what you like to do, where your comfort zone is, and what you dream of in your heart of hearts. The first part of the book concludes with making a plan and looking at the financial aspects involved.The rest of the book is divided into parts discussing various options from higher education to military service to entering the workforce. The book reads somewhat like a reference book or text book. I read through all of them, but you could just choose the sections you are interested in. Part Five: Get Busy Living was truly wonderful! It opened up my eyes and mind to things I wish I would have known when I was graduating from high school.I highly recommend this book to teenagers, young adults, parents, teachers, and guidance counsellors. It's helpful, encouraging, and inspirational.

I bought this book for my daughter who is a senior in high school. Making decisions about the future has been stressful for her, and smiles have been hard to come by. A week after I gave it to her, I asked her about it. She smiled and said she liked it especially doing the activities. Let me say that again. She read a book I gave her. No way you say. Yes - way. She liked a book I gave her enough to smile about it. No way you say. Yes - way. She was engaged enough with a book I gave her that she was doing activities in it. Way!

If I could hand students in high school one book to help them figure out what they want to do when they graduate, it would be Genevieve Morgan’s Undecided: Navigating Life and Learning After High School.As a volunteer in the College and Career Center at my daughters’ high school, I spent seven years talking to juniors about what they planned to do. Some of them knew exactly where their paths would take them, others were not so sure. All of them could have benefited from reading Undecided.Why do I think it’s such a great guide? For one thing, Morgan’s down-to-earth writing style makes you feel as though you are talking to a trusted friend. For another, the book is divided into sections that will walk students through the process of figuring out what they like and what they are good at and then present them with quite a few options that go beyond the expected university or community college enrollment.I also love the sidebars Morgan includes in the book. She includes things like checklists and quizzes to help students figure out their personality types, budget worksheets, and more. Profiles of famous people and the courses their lives took are also featured.Even with my training and experience in the high school, I didn’t know a lot of the details that Morgan covers as she discusses four-year universities, two-year colleges, joining the military, volunteering, signing up for a service program, going to work and more.I highly recommend Undecided for high school students as well as their parents.The publisher gave me a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Great Ophtho book for learning the basics of Ophthalmology which a nursing or even a medical student would find useful. Also appears to be helpful for preparing for basic eye related board questions. I have not viewed the related videos so I can't comment on those.

Great read without getting bored with too many technical terms.

I am a nurse that recently started working in the operating room with eye cases and was completely overwhelemed. This book saved me- it is incredibly easy to read and makes the learning entertaining. The book was written for medical students so it does have more information than needed for a nurse but helps with the baiscs: anatomy/physiology, pathology, retina detachments, cataracts, muscles surgery, etc.

Was a gift for a granddaughter. She like it.

This is a great resource book to walk you through the steps to create a great story. This needs to be read over and over again. Thanks to Brandon Sanderson for recommending this book. Grab a copy and read it and read it again. Everything from world building to magic systems and how to decide what form a space travel your worlds use. Is it Hyperspace? or is it Jump gates? How and whys of which one to use, and what the cost of magic is.

Fantastic advice and great insights into not only writing overall but specifically the challenges of Speculative Fiction. Probably the most helpful advice in the book was "end the story you started". Understanding the different story types and structures for each was key in figuring out what I have found troubling in so many books. I could never put my finger on exactly what bugged me, but seeing that so many authors start one type of story and finish a different one brought into crystal clarity a key differentiator between professional authors and would-be writers.I expect the wisdom in this book will have a profound effect on making my own writing much stronger.

Orson Scott Card's How to Write Science Fiction & Fantasy (HTWSF&F) is short and not very helpful. Of the 138 pages I would say that it had about 10 pages of useful information and that is being generous.I have really enjoyed his other books, Ender's Game, Speaker of the Dead and others, so I was disappointed with this effort and really expected a lot more.The title sells that it is going to teach the beginning writer "How to write SF & F." I don't see how this claim can be made. Of course, in the introduction, there is a disclaimer that the book will not cover writing in general but only details specific to SF & F.There is some relevant information, but it is brief and covers things such as long distance space travel, time travel, magic, back story, languages, and the MICE quotient, which all stories have a bit of - milieu, idea, character, event. All of this is presented in lists of short paragraphs. Not all that helpful.

This is an awesome little book that delves into the basics of writing speculative fiction from world building to publishing to dealing with family members who don't understand your need to write. I read one Amazon reviewer who didn't care for this book because everything in it is intuitive. Yes, most of what's in here makes perfect sense in a "Well, duh!" kind of way, but sometimes intuitive things need to be spelled out clearly. You may kind of know something at the back of your brain, but unless you can bring it to the front of your mind, it's not going to work for you. This book brings these things to the front of your mind, simply, clearly, and effectively.For example, Mr. Card writes that you should know why things are the way they are in your world. (Well duh, right?) Of course you should know why things work the way they do in your world, whether it's how spaceships manage to travel faster than light, or what the price of magic is. But the important thing is to know how all this stuff works before you really start, as opposed to making it up as you go. If you know what the rules are, then you can make your world believable. (Also, you don't have to keep going back and forth trying to find what you wrote before so that you don't contradict yourself.) What your characters do within those rules can happen spur of the moment, but the world they live in must be pretty well defined in your own mind before they start living there.The last section (The Life and Business of Writing) was the least intuitive of all, but so necessary. Getting published doens't mean quitting your day job (OK, that part was intuitive). Some of what he says is almost disheartening, but my feeling is, being prepared is better than being surprised. Knowing about the pitfalls can help you avoid them.I could go on and on about how helpful this book is, but I have a future bestseller calling to me, demanding that I plug a few holes and flesh out some of those pesky middle parts. So get this book if you like to write sci-fi or fantasy and your intuition is being a bit non-specific. It's good, plain and simple.

This book is good, but heavily weighted toward sci-fi and light on fantasy. He only mentions character and viewpoint, then refers you to another book. If you are a sci-fi writer, the technical side of his discussions will be enlightening, but not so much for fantasy or speculative writers.

While I find this book to be very helpful in structuring science fiction stories, I have to agree with the two individuals who complained about the examples given in the chapter on sex scenes. I found the examples to be poorly written. They were replete with awkward, incomplete sentences while being scant on sexual imagery. I must say that I was surprised by this initially, but when I read what Mr. Gerrold had to say about writing sex scenes, it made sense to me. He starts this particular chapter by saying that sex scenes are embarrassing to write, to read and to publish. There is no way that a writer can ever create a strong sex scene with such a poor attitude. Why even attempt them?

This must be the kindest, funniest, most no-nonsense book on craft I've ever read, and I've read a lot of good ones. It's honest and thoughtful, and promises no quick fixes while delivering a massive dose of can-do.

A good introduction to the world of writing science fiction by one of the world's premier science fiction writers. I learned several useful tidbits that I will carry with me for the rest of my time as a writer. Read it and you will find some as well.I rated this four stars only because there are other, better, writing self-help books out there, like Techniques of a Selling Writer by Dwight V Swain.This is a good supplement to any writer's craft.

This is the one source that will teach you flight simulator x. Excellent pictorials. Way better than the standard lessons. My only complaint is that the print is a bit light but still readable.

A good (but slightly dated) book for anyone interested in using their home PC for flight training. I learned to fly gliders using Condor software before getting my glider rating, and have flown extensively in X-Plane while training for my Private Pilot certificate.One key consideration that I could not find mentioned in the book is that anyone using a simulator for training should always sit down to the computer with a "real plane" mindset. Doing things like taking shortcuts with procedures, or flying the simulated aircraft as if it were part of a computer game defeats the purpose of training to ingrain muscle memory and create good decision making skills. Act like it is real, and you'll feel like it's real. You can however use the sim to experience situations you would rarely if ever practice in real aircraft, such as attempting the "impossible turn" back to the runway at 400 feet AGL.The age of the book also means it omits key facts about the software it references. FSX is no longer supported and has become stagnant, while X-plane continues to improve in both fidelity and user interface. This means that for X-Plane 11 users they will have to manually enter the situation's initial conditions and not rely on the downloadable situation files. It would be nice to see a revision of this book that updates this.

Kudos to Bruce Williams for an excellent compilation! This is by far the best, most thorough written authority on today's home PC flight simulators, skillfully incorporating two of the best most popular sims (X-Plane and Microsoft FS) on two different platforms (Mac & PC). Mr. Williams masterfully covers everything you need to know --in user-friendly, informative chapters-- about training in the FAA scenario-based method using your PC.I've been flying PC sims since the original Bruce Artwick MS Flight Simulator in the early 80's, all the way through Fly! and X-Plane 10 today. This is the best book on the subject by far, and you can tell lots of work has gone into it. It's thinly reminiscent of some of the "let's pretend..." scenario books that were released in the early days of MS FS, except those were more in the realm of game guides.This book, though, is serious stuff. You can tell Mr. Williams and team has put lots of tedious work into this one. If you're looking for a How-To on operating the sims themselves, this isn't really it; this guide lets you learn technique from the FAA publications that real-world pilots do...but then has a true-to-life flying lesson awaiting you with each chapter. You'll be taught. You'll be briefed. You'll be held to FAA standard. The author's team has also filled the book chock with websites, notes and tips on how to find the best, most current online resources for your training. They've even created a partner site where you can download everything you need to make this program work best-- from charts to free FAA guide downloads and more.The only minor "cons" to this book: Mr. Williams' partner site for this book includes downloadable scenario files for your sim. For X-Plane, these only work up to "X-Plane 9"-- but X-Plane 10 is now the newest release. So if you're like me who has the most current XP version, you're stuck to reading the book only and either not using his scenarios or setting them up in X-Plane 10 yourself. Hopefully the team will create scenario files for XP10 soon. Another improvement that could be made is that too many times in the book there is repeated reference to the partner site or a particular download or app. They probably could have saved lots of paper by consolidating these references into an iconic sidebar a la some of the "Dummies" books.All in all, though, a great buy if you're serious about learning to fly, increasing proficiency, or enjoying your PC sim the way real pilots enjoy their planes.

Bruce Williams has done an impressive job creating a guide to getting real training value out of desktop flight simulator products. Unlike flying in a real aircraft, flying in front of a computer often leaves you without a sense of accomplishment. By following the steps in this book, you can gather real insight into the skills required to become a good pilot.

A great training aid again by Mr Bruce Williams. I would highly recommend this latest training program to any pilot who has access to a computer. This also applies to any "Sim Pilot only", as it helps to master required skills. This is a followup to his "MS Flight Simulator as a Training Aid", which also provided both VFR/IFR Scenario-Based Training. I have flown most of those training flights many times and still gain something to improve my skills. I have not attempted any flights from his new effort yet-still reading the manual. Very fine guide and extremely thorough

I knew that the situation files provided would not work for X-plane, but I did not consider that a problem. It turned out to be a problem though... very hard to set everything up manually as described in each chapter.

Nice book, very informative if you are an FSX flight simulator aficionado like me. I love it. Unfortunately it came damaged due to poor packaging.

Bruce Williams was the subject of an interview I wrote after chatting with him when he made his anual migration from Seattle to Boulder City, Nevada, wher he keeps his airplane in the winter months.His book is easy to read and is very clearly written.He is an excellent instructor of aerobatic flying.

This is a great little book but contains so many wonderful smoothie and juice recipes. I found it hard for me to just come up with my own recipes so I found this book and was so excited to get it. I just love the smoothie recipes. Instead of going out and buying expensive ice cream treats I just use my blender and make my own healthy deserts at home. Saves money on gas too. I would recommend this to a friend or a family member. Such a great size to in a small kitchen, when space is limited.

This is a great little book and I love the fact that it is so compact and loaded with delicious recipes!

For a great breakfast especially when on a diet, smoothies are great. It's hard to find a favorite, there all good. I first saw the book in a health food store and thought I'd think about it. By the time I got home I went right on Amazon to buy it. It's worth the price.

I was initially thrilled reading the recipes until I kept seeing " put it through juice extractor". I don't own a juice extractor. So now I'll either have to use my blender and "strain" or just skip the dozens upon dozens of "juice" recipes this book has. Other than that, the book has some great looking smoothie recipes that call for blending which I'll use my new nutri ninja IQ blender with

So many ways to make super simple, uncomplicated and delicious smoothies. This is a gem of a book with lots of variations on the standard breakfast options, but where it shines is the extra recipes for the dessert types and the adult beverage based mixes. This is not geared just for the folks focused only on health food or weight loss - there are so many other ideas here.My favorites so far are the Mango, Coconut & Lime smoothie on page 75 - 4 ingredients and you have a tart cold summer refreshment that's perfect while reading on the deck. My mother is a fan of the Mango and Cardamon Lassi on page 195 - I make this for her whenever she visits. There are several options for "Boozy Smoothies" in the last section of the book - Fruity Gin Fizz and Passion fruit Margaritas have both been popular with guests here. Generally, this is a well rounded little book.

Everything I needed to know for a healthier way to prepare and utilize vegetable and fruit for nutritional smoothies and juices. Drink up for better health.
