Planning an extensive driving tour thru Provence, and I needed a large-scale PAPER map so that I could easily highlight place names and write notes. This is a scale of 1/200,000 which is perfect, as its large enough to show much detail. Beautifully done with mileage, travel times, important places to see, and locations of gas stations.

This map and the other Michelin maps that we ordered for regions of France are very detailed and very well done. But, to find your way through the back roads, a GPS is far better. The GPS provides warning of how far away the turns are, and there were a lot of then. We would not have traveled as extensively through the smaller communities and out-of-the-way places with only maps and the traveling that we did would have been far more frustrating with just the maps. I have always liked maps and thought of the GPS a nonessential but am now an enthusiast.Some of the reviews mentioned that the maps were large and awkward in the car but we had no problem in that regard.

Nice map, but was a map of several countries, including France. Had wished for map of France only with several inserts of cities of France. It was a nice reference - hard to tell toll roads, ended up using map as a reference and our GPS more. Easy drive from Zurich to Dion, then looping to Annecy (lovely town). Passed thru several small downtowns of (about 4 American blocks) towns. No stop signs, nor lights, just round circles (round a bouts), GPS helped a lot - many towns listed future towns on direction arrows - which is where this map helped! Hit a construction in France, ended up a rural hill - so GPS nor map helped, glad I caught a glimpse of road before GPS switched to new route. But if you get lost, most roads loop back to main road. Also if use nontoll roads plan extra 2 hours for longer legs of trip (As in Zurich to Dion, France). Also - on the GPS non toll route - HARDLY any cars on road - Awesome!! Tip: Always keep a 1/2 tank - gas stations hard to find, non in 1 block towns (ha), and several were closed. Also suggest carry cash - had hard time getting code to take on our credit cards with chips at stations. Also many have diesel, so make sure you study type needed. I believe we used something with a 95e in it. "Gasal is Diesel - and green handle is what you want. But ask someone to be safe. Hints - check with hotel on free downtown parking hours. Get the smallest car you can - many parking spots were tight- not unusual to see side windows pulled in, and leave room at back if back in, just in case person next to you is close in garage and you need to climb via trunk to get into car. ha Another hint: heard 2 horror stories of Eurocar rental - incorrect size for large family- they had to come back the next day, another family had to go to 3 DIFFERENT Places to track down their rental car. Most rental cars are stick shift.

The map is fine and was marginally helpful on our recent trip. However, as other have commented previous on the Michelin maps - it is huge! Very difficult to manage in a car. Parts of the area covered are represented on both sides of the map, so that is confusing, too. Don't know if I'll use this style map again.

This detailed road map saved us from getting lost daily, during a recent trip to Brittany, especially because cellular service on our otherwise smart-phone was non-existent in many small villages and back roads. Well worth buying ahead of time!

We always buy maps for our intended vacation destinations months before the trip. We study the entire region and along with guide books choose one particular area as a focal point. The Michelin Regional Maps are extremely useful in helping us make this decision and to see the interesting sites within short distances for us to fan out and explore. After our daily trips, my husband highlights the routes that we have explored and the map then becomes a keepsake. Love them.

This should be labeled western Loire Valley, only. Cuts off Saumur and barely covers Tours. I recommend Michelin maps, but wish I didn't overlook some previous comments that mentioned that this map does NOT cover the entire Loire Valley.

Useful in planning our trip. Disappointing that it only covers the western portion of the valley. I needed to order the map for Central France to plan for our trip. Has good detail, with route names and driving distances. Large to use in the car--but most maps are if not folded to reveal smaller areas.

The book was very informative and interesting. The pictures were great. I lived there when this happened and I have recommended it for purchase to several friends who lived in the area.

I remember when this event happened- I was a kid at the time but it was scary - and is still haunting to this day.

Informative but also respectful of the victims, their friends, and families. Early history of the bridge was quite interesting and the photos were thoughtfully selected.

Excellent book with rare photos and brief personality profiles of many of the victims. I highly recommend this book to anyone with an interest in a tragic piece of American history.

Excellent job of covering the details of this horrible tragedy.Highly recommend this book to those who have an interest is the fall of the Silver Bridge.

This book was recommended in another book on facilitation. I did find several good ideas, and have since used some of those with good results. Like another reviewer here, I found the comments about what not to do and mistakes to avoid helpful. But I had hoped for more. Like other reviews I've read elsewhere, I found the 21 list framework a bit gimmicky and distracting. Overall, it was worth the price, though better books may be out there (but I still haven't found what I'm looking for ... at least in newer books). I have found a few older books, like "How to Make Meetings Work" and "Joining Together" just as helpful.

An excellent handbook for anyone who wants to help people get involved and empowered.

This books is written by an experienced practitioner. I found some useful ideas that I will use in my own workshops. I have been facilitating full time for about 15 years. Well written and easy to digest!

underwhelmed by the exercises included. it's just ok. if i had seen this in a bookstore, and had the chance to flip through it, i wouldn't have bought it.

I happen to be quite fond of revisionist studies (e.g., "Harding was a great president") because they challenge long-held beliefs, cause you to rethink your fundamental ideas, and get the brain cells jumping. This is just such a book. While I disagree with nearly all of the author's central arguments, it nonetheless merits 5 stars due to its superior scholarship, although it does evidence some methodological problems along the way. After a fine initial chapter which summarizes the book's entire arguments, the first section undertakes to refute decades of academic writing that asserted that for much of the 19th and early 20th centuries, judges argued they did not "make" law but instead simply mechanically derived the answers to legal questions by logical analysis from established principles. In this analysis of "legal formalism," the author's principal targets are folks like Jerome Frank, Grant Gilmore, and Roscoe Pound. Therefore, the author contends, the assertion that the legal realists of the 1920's and 1930's uncovered the truth about judicial decisions, and stripped away layers of obfuscation, to reveal the truth, is a distortion. Rather, the author asserts, everybody recognized that judges were influenced by external factors and not controlled by logic. As we all recall, Holmes asserted as early as 1881 that "the life of the law has not been logic; it has been experience."Part Two focuses upon the legal realists themselves and argues largely that the so called discoveries of the legal realists as to how judges made decisions had been widely recognized for decades before their appearance. Particularly is this true in connection with the historical school of jurisprudence. Even some of the realists themselves realized that much of what was associated with realism's critique of judging was "old hat." The third section of the book looks at "studies of judges." This is where my brain cells started to pop; in the interests of full disclosure I must fess up to having taken a Ph.D. in this area in 1970, although I stopped "professing" in 1977. The author, I think, does not appreciate what these largely statistical quantitative studies are setting out to accomplish. Rather, he generally just writes them off as misguided, apparently because he thinks (mistakenly in my opinion) that these authors are just latter-day legal realists. Moreover, he ignores that the field of judicial behavior is much richer and broader than the single facet he concentrates upon.I found the final section of the book to be the best and quite outstanding. Here the author discusses his theory of "balanced realism," looks at some theoretical writing on the role of "rules" (Schauer and R. Kennedy in particular, with some H.L.A. Hart thrown in), and raises the very vital issue of do we want judges to make decisions straitjacketed by rules, or do we want them to have some flexibility to adapt the rules to enhance the legal system? Included are remarks on Judge Posner's legal pragmatic approach versus that of Ronald Dworkin. These are important issues and the author does a fine job of raising and discussing them. The real danger that lies in these issues, the author believes, is that the public will become excessively skeptical about judging, which would undermine the entire system.Anyone interested in American legal thought generally, and legal formalism and the realists in particular, will find this book must reading. The author's research is impeccable, and 47 pages of notes attest to his thorough command of the literature and the issues (plaudits to "Hein on Line" appear in order). I think the author engages in some unfortunate techniques, such as taking a quote from one individual and arguing others agreed with it; he tends to jump around and juxtapose quotes from different time frames; there is undue reliance on two few indiviuals; one wonders how "reresentative" the quotes he cites really are; and on occasion he engages in vast speculation about judges without any empirical evidence to back him up. Nonetheless, this is a fine book: it stimulates, challenges, enhances the reader's familiarity with the pertinent literature, and raises some vital theoretical issues. So, those of you who believe, as do I, that the realists were a pretty important group of folks in American legal thought, should grit your teeth and jump on the author's roller coaster--the ride is worth the pain!
