I've been a fan of Melanie Dickerson's books for a long time since she wrote her first book, "The Healer's Apprentice". I knew she has been wanting to do a Southern historical book. So I was excited when she announced she was coming out with a Southern historical romance I immediately ordered the book and as soon it was delivered to my door, I finished it in one sitting. Melanie Dickerson has yet again reminded me why she is one of my favorite authors. She has done medieval/fairy tales and Regency romance, now she can add Southern historical romances. It's clear that Melanie Dickerson was meant to write this book. I loved the characters, the romance, and the setting. Truett Beverly is a swoon-worthy hero, although I do wish we could have more adventures of him being the "Hooded Horseman", however, whenever he was in the scene you can't help but fall in love with him. Cecilia was definitely different from Melanie Dickerson's heroines. She was very feisty and I loved it. I could see myself in her so she was relatable and man I enjoyed whenever she and Truett are together. They have such great chemistry and the romance, ugh, I could not get enough of it. I enjoyed the setting of Alabama and it was very easy to picture myself there and experience the senses. I will definitely have to visit Alabama one day. I am very glad that Melanie Dickerson was able to publish this book and I definitely cannot read more of the next books in the series! (Also can we talk about the cover????? GORGEOUS!)

I loved this book! I haven't read a Melanie Dickerson that I didn't like, but this one is really special. Set in the post-Civil War south, there's so much southern charm, along with a bit of Zorro-esque dashing heroism. Celia is not your typical Southern Belle. She longs for her own Boutique, to create her own gowns and be a business-woman in her own right. As much as a husband and kids might sound good, she fears they'd take away from her desire for her business. But, when her family needs her, she puts her dreams on hold, and travels to the small town, and meets Truett. Truett is pure charm, spouting poetry, but with a good head on his shoulders as the town doctor, and a deep desire to see justice done. As each fights their own feelings, can they learn to lean on each other for help? Or will someone with more sinister intent ruin the good of the town? This was a great read, and one I highly recommend, and I do hope to read more about these wonderful people!

This is actually the start of a second Vader series. The first one began, along with the new Marvel main Star Wars series, right after the Death Star was destroyed. That Vader series birthed the new characters of Doctor Aphra, Triple Zero, BeeTee, and Cylo. Now, that series has come to an end.THIS NEW SERIES IS GOOD!It picks up the moment that Anakin Skywalker awakes in his armor at the end of Revenge of the Sith. It chronicles the first steps of Darth Vader.We learn something new about the Sith. They do not create their own lightsabers. They must take a saber from a Jedi and make it their own.The Sith blades are red and only red.Why?Palpatine explains that the kyber crystals that power the sabers are living things within the Force. This is backed up by the Rogue One novel (it was either that or Catalyst). The crystals are rock, but they are also alive.In the hands of a Sith, the new owner uses the Dark Side to push all his pain into the crystal--until the crystal bleeds and turns the color of the beam red.I just think that is all sorts of awesome!

Solid read from Soule. The second Marvel published Darth Vader series picks up immediately after the infamous "NOOO" from Revenge of the Sith and explores Vader's early days with the fledgling Empire. This Vader is a fascinating character study as he isn't the all powerful Lord of the Sith we know him to be from the original trilogy. Vader is still struggling to shed his previous identity as Anakin Skywalker and feels the tug of the light side. With Palpatine's guidance, Vader is sent on a journey to track down and eliminate one of the few Jedi who survived the purge and to claim the man's lightsaber crystal for himself. Vader may not be all powerful in this book, but it makes him a bit more interesting to follow. Just for the sake of rectifying that awful sequence from Episode Three this book gets respect; the series also sets up the origins of the Sith Inquisition from the Star Wars Rebels show and provides a bit more connective tissue between the Inquisitors and Vader. The action is fun and often intensely brutal (Vader destroying a dam ends up being one hell of a moment) and the world building from Vader's early days provides a great counter point to Giffen's earlier Vader series.

Darth Vader's rise to power makes up this story. It shows Vader testing the waters with his new armor. For a short graphic novel, it shows us Vader's limitations as a leader and how he builds his reputation as a ruthless villain. Overall the art and computer color are spot on. They depict the dark lord with uncanny accuracy that is true to the films. Writer, Charles does a superb job capturing the early career of Vader's stranglehold on the empire.

Picking up directly with the conclusion of Episode III, this volume shows the first trial of young Vader — securing a kyber crystal for his Sith lightsaber. The pages crackle with energy and Vader’s raw emotional state in the early days of his transition to the Dark Side have never felt more electric and poignant. A key scene showing Vader considering an alternate path is especially moving and powerfully presented. Fans of the Rebels TV show will also see a new introduction to the Grand Inquisitor which fleshes out his backstory a bit. This volume was on sale for $3.99 for Kindle — a virtual steal. You don’t know the power of the Dark Side until you check out this awesome story.

This comic series takes an interesting and haunting look at the events of Vader at the very end of and immediately following Episode III. As a kid watching the original SW trilogy (Ep IV-VI), I thought of Darth Vader as the coolest, baddest villain in the galaxy...next to the Emperor. But what Lucas wanted us to know through the prequels is that Vader aka Anakin is actually more of a tragic even sympathetic villain. Among many other issues I have the prequels, they took away some of the mystery and horror of Vader.If you are a SW fan especially a Vader fan, if you love the Vader scene at the end of Rogue One, and you want to know how Anakin became "more machine than man", then you will enjoy reading this comic written by Charles Soule and beautifully drawn by G. Camuncoli. Vader has become to me even more cool, more frighting, and more powerful than what I imagined back when I was a kid.

From writer Charles Soule and various very talented comic book artists, comes the first volume in a new series that takes place right after Episode III and only gets darker and sithier with every issue. It’s a great story/character-based comic-book continuation of Anakin Skywalker’s fall and Lord Vader’s rise. Besides a few weak moments of un-polished character and backdrop artwork, this series really hits the Star Wars spot. Charles Soule’s 3rd Star Wars c-b series is another winner, and the action is also quite cracking (very literally).

Not bad, very good. Soule's story seems more like a collection of "Rogue One"-finale moments. It's Darth involved in Moment after Moment but there's a sequence at the end that gives it all some real weight and payoff. The Camuncoli/Smith art is excellent. I didn't know Cam, but he's a great cartoonist for these characters, his storytelling is top-notch and exciting and he doesn't cheat on Star Wars gear. Smith's inking is bold and striking, very underrated inker and always think he makes the pencils even greater. Curiel's colors are beautiful, the book looks like ILM did it. I kinda think Gillen's run has more personality and ambition than this Soule book. This was a quicker read, a very good action-oriented, visual book.

What a dummy I was to purchase this book based upon the Amazon reviews. Look at those reviews carefully. Notice how generalistic the praise is? I failed to notice. I now suspect these reviewers are shills. So, here is my much more specific review:First, the book has no page numbers. How can you use a reference book without page numbers? The font is large and double-spaced. Most pages seem to have less than 100 words. And there are no illustrations. The book provides a few commands, with vague explanations of these commands. The commands themselves seem to have no practical use for my purposes. I see little to no use for commands such as Get-Process or Get-Service. Nor does the author explain the uses very well or in much detail. There's a chapter on scripting, with no information on how to actually run the script once it is written. And in fact, the information on how to write a script is very sparse. The author also advises to place comments in the scripts you write, but offers no explanation how to do this without the comment being interpreted as a command (in Bash you do this by prepending with a hashtag: "#"). This sort of detail would be simple, basic, helpful information.I mainly bought this book in order to learn how to write a script that would speed up archiving of files. That's a basic, useful function that most beginners would be interested in. But I have not found any such information in this book.Now to move from specific to general. In my opinion, this book is a joke. Worse than that, it's a rip-off. It was not nearly worth the $26 I spent, in my view. I would not have even paid 26 cents for it, had I known the quality ahead of time. Here's what the scheme seems to be, from my perspective: Write a book and put little effort into it. Then get some folks to write rave reviews and sell the book for a mint. It worked in my case. You got my money Jack Jones. But I'll be more careful in the future. I'll read those reviews carefully and consider them suspect when they contain little specific information. Caveat Emptor on Amazon, I guess.

My StoryI wish I didn't have to write this review, but alas, it was done by someone else. Or at least initially. Yes, that's right, I had no control over my account when this review was made. Yesterday, I tried to log in to my Amazon account, and was stopped. The password had been changed, the email had been changed. I immediately called Amazon, and it took them almost an hour to figure out which account was even mine, because someone had stripped all my personal information from the account (this hacker knew what they were doing I guess). After that, it took another full 24 hours of a "security review" before Amazon would reset my email address and password so that I could have my account back.When I finally got back in, what did I find? A whole bunch of reviews on products and books. Quite frankly, the reviews contained a lot of troubling spelling and grammatical errors (that sentence was unapologetically aimed at the hacker, if they ever come back to look. You're kind of an idiot). All that I can surmise is that the person who wrote this book decided to pay for reviews, and the service they paid uses very underhanded methods to fulfill that. Read at your own risk, it must be terrible.The real Dan C.

The author goes over everything in short concise chapters, stays on topic, provides excellent user knowledge, really love how everything is explained, nothing is too overwhelming and everything makes sense. Excellent author, really wish he had a few more eBooks to learn.Thanks author!

My daughter (6th grade and an aspiring dancer) was required to read a non-fiction work for a book report. This fit the bill perfectly. It appealed to her love of dance, and was appropriate for her age and reading level. She loved the book, and it opened the door to conversations about history the role government plays in society, capitalism vs communism, and the kind of dedication and LUCK required to make it as a dancer.

I loved this book! It's a rather quick read, but very interesting. Since it's a mix between Chan Hon Goh's personal journey as a Chinese immigrant and her journey as a ballet dancer, I was concerned about either aspect of the book seeming less interesting than the other. This was not the case at all, and Goh managed to intertwine these two aspects of her life in a very interesting and enjoyable way. The many photos were also beautiful to look at. The cover mentions a children's book prize, but I really think the book would appeal to almost anyone. Definitely recommended!

Beyond the Dance: A Ballerina's Life was purchased as a gift and sent directly to the recipient. From her comments of thanks, I believe it is very much appreciated.

This charming book tells of a dancer's journey from China to the ballet stages in Canada. It was nice to have photos, too.

I'm sorry to say, that while the concept is interesting, the execution is not on par with other R.A. Steffan books. With all scifi/fantasy/PNR, etc., you have to suspend disbelief but this requires so much more than the usual adult PNR that it comes across as YA in several instances.There are also multiple areas of clearly different writing styles which was jarring and instances of telling not showing (ie: Della thinking the staircase looks like the one in Gone with the Wind; which is in no way additive to setting the stage) that were just too much for me to overcome. As a result I don't anticipate continuing this particular series but continue to look forward to reading other works by R.A. Steffan.

Some books are fantastic. Some books are just OK and then you have some that are just bad. This book was bad! I have been looking for a new vampire romance series to get into. I was so excited when I found this one. Boy, was I disappointed!I didn’t think the heroine was really a solid character. Most of the time the book talked about her former life. I just felt that her former life had more description then her current personality. It also talked about how much the hero loved her former life and just automatically loved her because of that. That really doesn’t do it for me.I think this is why I do not like books that involve reincarnation. I understand the concept of having one soul with multiple lifetimes.. but it just contradicts my believe that people change over time and certainly through different time periods. So we’re not the same people. And I want somebody to love me for me not the 112 other “me” floating throughout time. Because I would disassociate myself from them as different people. Connected people but still individual people.But also I just didn’t the story to be engaging. And I also don’t think the author did a good job connecting the storyline from one segment to another. I just didn’t find storyline to be logical or reasonable. The heroine would have internal dialogue with herself that contradicted with her actions. And not only could I not connect with the main characters, the secondary characters were also just blah. The author tried so hard to make Xander the funny quirky but lovable sidekick...fail.I’m just one of those people that have to finish a book if I bought it. And I lost interest probably after 1/3 of the book. And just forced myself to get through all the chapters. What a waste of time, i know! No way am I going to read the second book in the series.. Walking away right now. Looking for new romantic vampire series to invest in. And I recommend that you walk away too, if you value your time and money.

I really tried to get into this book. But it was just to boring for me. The main character was so blah. I hate books that tells you instead of shows you. I didn't feel a connection to either character. My biggest issue is the female gets into 3 different scenarios 2 serious ones and she tries to tell the people who saved her life twice she wants to go home even though she knows shes in danger. There is a difference between being strong/independent and being stupid/stubborn and shes the latter.

Loved the characters their different personalities and the gWhole plot line. Seriously demons scare me so this one kept me interested and wanting to find out more! Love the vampires too

Enjoyed, Tre' and Della/ Irina the tale of lost love found and the challenges that arise. A welcoming introduction to the start of the series. The battle of good and evil will have dawning. of the victory. Della was a scared fighter who had strong weaken spirit. Tre was suffering from the sins of the past then he awaken to Della/ Irina found lost love. The battle for the spirit soul commence . On to the next book..

It was a refresher for me about Vampires. The simplicity, yet power. It's a reminder of how much evil really is in this world as well. The book read smooth, no errors that I could see. I look forward to reading the next installment of this series.

Not the best book by this author, 2 1/2 stars. The writing drug on and the heroin Was irritating. I bought the set so I’m hoping the next books are better. I hate writing bad reviews. It does introduce all of the characters and gives you a feel for them. The end picks up and improves the story, I’m goin to read all the rest, I’ve liked this author in the past, so I’m hoping I can revise my review after I’m done with the rest.
